Active Youth

OUR PROGRAMMES

Active Youth is TAP’s annual summer programme created to support the mental, physical, and emotional well-being of underserved PanAfrican youth in Greater Manchester. Launched in 2020 alongside community partners KYSO, MGT Youth, and A3 Access, the programme was developed in response to rising youth violence and trauma affecting Black communities.

In partnership with Patagonia and Black Girls Hike, Active Youth engages groups of young people in high-energy outdoor experiences such as hiking, mountain biking, indoor climbing, and snowboarding—while embedding practices of mindfulness, reflection, and creative expression. The programme also provides mentorship from trusted youth workers and mental health practitioners.

By encouraging youth to connect with nature, challenge themselves physically, and explore sustainable living, Active Youth builds confidence, resilience, and long-term wellbeing—creating powerful ripple effects across families and communities, including encouraging more community wide participation in exercise and outdoor activity.

The feedback from the programme has been phenomenal from the participating beneficiaries. Young people have reported feeling more stable, safe & able to speak their truths, as well as having more points of community support to go too.
